After a whole year off from any travel (what a switch that was!) I was starting to get restless and knew I had to find something adventurous, different, and exciting for 2017. I did a ton of research and started to come across groups that co-work and co-live together. Hmmm… sounds like exactly what I’ve been looking for! However, I noticed that many of the groups were young – like early 20’s. I sure didn’t want to stick out like that big fat sore thumb, so I kept looking. Then I found it. Hacker Paradise. Their groups looked quite diverse and better still, they were going to South America – one of my bucket list places – Buenos Aires.
I filled out a short online application and my Skype interview was set up a couple of days later. I met with Spencer, one of the organizers of Hacker Paradise, and we got to learn more about each other. The very next day, I was sent an offer to join the group. Yay!
So, for the month of February, I’m heading south. And the picture above is the condo I’ll be staying in. It’s located in the Palermo Soho neighbourhood in Buenos Aires. (Named after the New York neighbourhood – it’s supposed to be chic and happening.)
Honestly, it’s a bit scary. It’s the first time I’ve ever visited a country where English was not predominant. (I’ve been to Germany and Austria but my sister-in-law lives there and speaks the language, so that doesn’t count. 🙂
It’s also thrilling. I’m really looking forward to meeting all of the new people who also work online. Imagine hanging out for a whole month with people who truly “get” what you do. LOL
I’ve been studying beginner’s Spanish through an online self-study program. I’m think I’m starting to get the hang of the masculine and feminine thing – never could through all my school days French.
My intention is to post regularly about the experience. Maybe you’ll follow me, find the whole idea fascinating and come with me next time?
